Do you ever look back on your own "Works in Progress"?
A record of your creative process?
How simple lines become values, values become shapes, and
shapes become textures.
To trick the eye into seeing mere pencil strokes
become an image of a face with feeling and expression.
The brain sees light shapes as being on the top and the darks
laying underneath. The illusion of depth on a flat piece
of paper by using values is my favorite part of drawing.
The power of contrast. Darkest of darks and the lightest of
lights. Sometimes its the key to an appealing subject.
Takes some photos of your works in the early
stages, and look back on them later. It's
a great way to inspire yourself, and to keep
track of your progress.
