Be Your Own Inspiration

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 7, 2013, 10:26 AM

Do you ever look back on your own "Works in Progress"?
A record of your creative process?
How simple lines become values, values become shapes, and
shapes become textures.

To trick the eye into seeing mere pencil strokes
become an image of a face with feeling and expression.

The brain sees light shapes as being on the top and the darks
laying underneath. The illusion of depth on a flat piece
of paper by using values is my favorite part of drawing.

The power of contrast. Darkest of darks and the lightest of
lights. Sometimes its the key to an appealing subject.

Takes some photos of your works in the early
stages, and look back on them later. It's
a great way to inspire yourself, and to keep
track of your progress. :)

I never get to textures. xD I usually stay at shapes, color, and shading, lol.

A lot of my WIPs are usually pieces and stayed WIPs for a good reason xD

Wow those are awesome! To most one could argue these pieces look more "artsy" than a finished work. I have always been tempted to stop half way but could never really do it. But it does look pretty cool with the gray black and white. Stopping half way with color is a little harder. Looks great though!

I know what you mean. Sometimes abandoning a drawing is kinda cool. I did it with this [link] I must confess though. One day i took it out and finished it

In them pencils be magic! I like seeing how you coax em into giving it up.
Excellent advice!
